Well after slipping into virtual obscurity these last few weeks due to varying other commitments, I've finally found some time to scratch myself and post something on the blog!! It has been almost 7 weeks since anything has been posted whether it be playlists, whats been happening, anything for that matter! So I must say sorry for that.. but life being what it is i'm sure you will have all heard my tired excuses before! So lets not even go there...

So all i can do is endevour to get the last 7 weeks of playlists up as soon as i can and let you know whats coming up in this weeks show...

Mebbo again couldnt be with us this week due to work commitments, but he will be along in the coing weeks thats for sure. There is no special guest due to my lack of time during the week to do anything but I have managed to source some amazing music from all corners of the globe. Well I'm getting in early this week cos we have yet another massive guest on the show, but more on that shortly!! This week again I will be flying solo, Mebbo has gone missing.. Have you seen him? Moving on now to more serious matters, yes, we do have another huge guest on this weeks show in Mr Michael Woods. He has been tearing clubs a new one with his sets and giving the rest of us some amazing tracks to play to you punters, this episode is one for all those of fans of Big room sounds! Make sure you don't miss it!!

Genius can be measured in a number of ways: ability, originality and accomplishment. In Michael’s short career he has managed to touch on every cornerstone, leaving proof of his musical competence at producing big room, progressive and tech-house tracks, along with a discernible motivation to better the quality of music being distributed. This has not gone unnoticed, with DJs like Pete Tong jumping at the chance to document Michael's rise, featuring him on shows such as Radio 1’s 15 minutes of Fame.

From Argentinean & Guyanese decent, he was born and raised in Hackney London which he still calls home running his studio from there. Classically trained in a range of instruments at an early age provided Michael with a catalogue of creative skills including the keys—which he learned to play at the tender age of 3—guitar, drums and trumpet, practically making him a one man band. When not in the studio messing around with Cubase developing his craft, he would be found at Pimlico’s Trinity Music College where he contracted a love for musicality, often using his spare time orchestrating with the percussion section of the London Symphony Orchestra. Earlier achievements include the Michael Woods Remix of Energy 52’s Café Del Mar which held pride of place on the acclaimed Chilled Ibiza Gold Album and is a prime example of the ever growing popularity of the Woods marque. It has never ceased to be continually played and is still considered a classic among DJs and fans alike.

Collaboration’s with the likes of Chris Lake on Domino’s are proof of his skillful production abilities. These, however, are not the sole examples of his talent; many established artists have hired Mr Woods to renovate their sound into a style which emulates Michael’s musical vision. His remixes include Feels Like A Prayer on Toolroom Records, Deadmau5’s Strobe on mau5trap, Deadmau5 & Chris Lake with I Said as well as the more mainstream artists: Adele, Nate James, Xenomania signing Gabriella Cilmi, The Temper Trap, Way Out West and more recently, Estelle (I Can Be A Freak). Each have turned to Michael to help send shock waves through the music world with their sound, upping his status as a respected artist, track-after-track. His ability to rework music with an exceptionally sharp ear for quality production has left him in high regard with many artists and labels across the industry, with direct Tweets from the likes of Tiesto hailing his skill as one of the many examples.

Diffused Music has become his major priority since he founded the label in September 2008. Using it as a platform from which to promulgate his perfected sound, the label has released numerous acclaimed records: Yemba, Dropzone and the Envolver EP. As Michael’s career continues to escalate he has lined up countless events to build on his current success, touring with Deadmau5, setting a number of UK based gigs and also earning a coveted residency spot at one of the most sought after places in the clubbing realm, Cream’s Amnesia in Ibiza. Along with Mark Knights Toolroom Knights events and Pete Tongs Wonderland, the Woods fan base and clientele continues to sky rocket. It is apparent that this is not the height of his creativity, but rather a preview into what assuredly will be an illustrious career.

After a long week off from the show were back again from 11pm with all the good stuff!! Mebbo, yet again, is as sick as pavlovs dog, but has managed to dig up some fine fine pieces of electronica he calls techno. As for me, I think i will cross a few spectrums as have found some very tidy tracks spanning deep house, minimal, tech, progressive and everthing in between. But enough.. What tonight is about is the deep, the moody, the twisted and the self professed psychodelic!!

Joe Miller, host of one of the Soundponds most reputable and diversive shows, has been making a name for himself as the guy that wants to buck the trend. Known for his elusive and sometimes unexpected discogrpahies Joe has forged him self to be at the forefront of the Adelaide underground scene in almost no time at all...]

Well how goes you this week? It is that time again where we drop you a line to let you know whats happening on the weekend... For starters this weekend marks a small mile stone in the history of the show, we will hit 100 episodes, from humble beginnings to now, we have prided ourselves on delivering a somewhat different but at the same time quality product, which we hope you agree SHIFT_ is just that!! It is really at the end of the day not worth doing without you the listeners support so i thank each and every one of you for all the kind words and encouragement so far!!

I guess its only fitting that this week we profile one of the founding 'supporters' of the show and local underground legend, Mr Jorge Watts... Watto has been on top of the game both locally and internationally for quite sometime and his new breadth of guises are no different!! His bio below is just a testment to just how much this guy has accomplished...

Since returning to Australia from a six-month stint in Chicago, Jorge Watts, alias Loop Killaz, The Subjekts, Tokyo 3, Mr WattO & the Azteckid, is fast becoming a name to watch. Through his super-tight Djing in clubs around the world or from recent musical productions on labels such as Global Trax, Subsounds, WET Musik, 1200 Traxx, Hard Hat Recordings, Blockhead Recordings, Random Access Recordings Detroit, Undefined Australia and Vast Recordings, Jorge has made an enormously loud “bang” at the forefront of Australian House and Techno music.

As a DJ Jorge has played parties across northern America, and in such clubs as Velvet Room, Windsor Canada, Rednofive/Fifth Floor Chicago, and Reave Gosh Chicago. His releases to date have also appeared in the play lists and charts of DJ's Carl Cox, Dj Sneak, Slam, Dj Rush, Mark Farina, Derrick Carter, Paul Mac (UK), Cristian Varela, 1200 Warriors, Steve Bicknell, Dj Lucca, Glasgow’s Craig Hamilton and Chicago's .Dotbleep head honcho Justin Long, to name but a few.

Jorge is also renowned around the globe as one half of the dynamic techno duo Loopkillaz, which has seen successful productions on U.S. labels Global Trax and Hard Hat Recordings. His Loop Killaz release “Down Underground” was licensed on Misstress Barbara, Dj Lucca and Dj Misjah mix CD’s, and sat firmly in Carl Cox’s top ten. Carl Cox also used it on the “Carl Cox and Friends - 2004 Ahoy, Rotterdam” DVD alongside their debut Hard Hat release “PM 2 AM”.

Jorge has been an important ingredient of Adelaide’s club scene for well over a decade and has taken his rhythm shaking sound round the world. And in late 2007 Jorge unveiled his new moniker Mr. WattO. This is the culmination of his gravitation towards the minimal techno sound. Since returning from Chicago, Jorge has been delving more into the raw stripped back element of techno and now he has teamed up with fellow Adelaide native Sonny Fodera to form a new techno outfit named “The Subjekts” which has seen four international releases after only six months of a solid working relationship in the studio.

At the beginning of 2009 US house giants 1200 Traxx finally unearthed one of the most highly sought after tracks of that time. Jorge’s ‘Up to the Sky’ had been tearing up dance floors for a several years around the globe. Chicago house titan Derrick Carter remixed it and gave it his signature magic, as did fellow house gangster DJ Sneak along with Wally Callerio, The Hoodfellas, 1200 Warriors and Sliced Funk.

Jorge has Dj’d and performed stomping live supporting sets alongside international heavyweight Dj’s such as Jeff Mills, Speedy J, Derrick Carter, Marco Carola, Carl Cox, Chris Liebing, Collabs Live, Ben Sims, Joey Beltram, Mike Dearborn, Advent, Joel Mull, Surgeon, Dj Rolando, Umek, Valentino, Richie Hawtin, Inland Knights, Ian Pooley, Dj Dizzy, Gene Farris, James Ruskin, H-Foundation, Common Factor, Adam Beyer, Cari Lekebusch, Dave Angel, Derrick May, Paul Johnson, Juan Atkins, Dave Clarke and many more vaunted talents.

ALEX & FILIP are two music junkies from Nova Gorica, Slovenia. Since there humble beginnings back n 2005, the duo have been locked up in the studio since of late and the result is brilliant to say the least! With tracks and remixes forthcoming on labels Baroque, Ferigie's Rekluse and Spektre's Respekt, Dumb Recordings, BEBR, Big Love, Fizzeek beside their own Mirabilis, It's the proof of the boys constant quality work.
These tracks have been immediately supported, played and charted by the likes of Roger Sanchez, Matt Darey, John Digweed, Fergie, Spektre, Filthy Rich, Demi, Nick Warren, Mark Knight to name but a few and all of them have been gaining steady sales over the last months.
Gig wise over the last couple of years they have rocked floors all over Slovenia (Lipa, Simfonija, Kaos, Sub Sub, Fun Factory, Heaven, Ambasada Gavioli, Cream, Pulse festival, Castle party, Marcus Club, Patriot, The Club, K4, Trnfest …) and also gigs in Italy (Suburbia, Kursaal…), Croatia (Colosseum, Fort Burgignon, House Angels…). Well another week is fast coming to a close, and you know what that means? Yes thats right the weekend is almost upon us yet again!! But it also means we can go to the footy again, well yes but it also means another episode of SHIFT_ is not far off aswell!

Each week we have been featuring some of the cream of local talent across the underground spectrum and this week is no exception. Adam Clavell heads up the uber shiek BUMP parties, a bi-monthly event tailored to all those fans of minimal tech and wobbly beats. After cutting his teeth in the far off lands of the UK back in 2007 Adam, returned home and began to make his own in roads into the scene. Fast forward to today and you will find one of the most in tuned DJ's to his genre. Expect nothing but bliss from the man I call 'cowbell' [long story] and what better way to setup for the main act!!

Described as “The DJs, DJ” Anthony Pappa truly is a master of his craft and one of the most respected and revered DJs on the international circuit. The combination of his genuine love for his art, his down to earth, lovable personality and his constant desire to push the musical boundaries at performances all around the world has made Anthony one of the most sought after DJs on the planet.

An Australian of Italian descent based in the UK, Anthony Pappa is a true internationalist, with a self-imposed mission to share his music with people all around the world. And since gracing the cover of DJ Magazine in 2000 as part of the celebrated “Nu-Breed”, Anthony Pappa has taken his rightful place at the top table of DJ royalty.

Running alongside that has been Anthony’s parallel career as a producer. As a classically trained drummer who can both read and write music, Anthony is rare amongst DJs in really understanding the music, and in the process of piecing it together. The man knows his way around a studio as well as a DJ booth, prompting DJ Pete Gooding to quip he’s “the best DJ, technically, I ever saw”. Anthony was the first man Global Underground turned to front up their Nu-Breed series, and several of Anthony’s mixes for Global and for Renaissance have clocked up +100,000 in sales.

After a couple of years focusing on his gigs at all the best clubs round the globe, 2008 saw Anthony turn his attention back to producing music. Setting up his own label, Red Light District, which was home to his first original track in quite a while – Outback - released in March; and in April, Anthony released his triple disc Moments album on Hi-Note which finally gave him the scope to dig into all four corners of his record box and demonstrate the scale of his appreciation for electronic music. The 2008 "Moments" Mix album tour saw him play over 70 cities around the world.

With that in mind, Anthony is clearly showing no signs of slowing down… first off he has been back in the studio working on some new material that will be released in 2010. The music promises not to be to pigeon holed which Anthony is really pleased about. "Im finding some really cool music across all styles at the moment, its seems to be a really cool time with more and more Djs & producers breaking that genre pattern"

2010 is definitely going to be a year of change for Anthony with his move to Coda Agency London. His gig diary is full for the first quarter of the year, including an extended tour of his homeland, Australia. In March, he will host his own night at the Shelbourne for WMC. On top of this, Anthony plans to release his 3rd instalment of the “Moments” series in the middle
of the year.

First up, apologies for not getting the playlist up from last weeks show, unfortunately, as with alot of things, the amount of volcano ash in the air has wrecked havoc with the computers and as such the playlist from last weeks show has been lost for good... We will try and piece it together from memory as soon as we can!

Now, to this weeks show!

Aside from all the usual frivolity first up we have Mebbo trying on his housier hat for the night, he's told me during the week that he has dug up some corkers, so I guess we will let our ears be the judge come saturday night!

Also joining in on the action this week in the studio is Edgar Roex, the local dutchman that is only ever keen to play good tunes. Recently signing to the weekly soundpond stable, it is only fitting that the big guy swing by for a mix and chat!! Expect a bag of tracks from the toolroom plus plenty more from this guy who just loves the dutch funk!!

Also this week one of the unsung heroes of the UK house music scene, James Talk joins in for a mix.. The 27-year-old Southampton talent has been DJing half his life, and over the last 7 years has carved a name for himself in the production world as one the most talented groove-makers around. Whether it’s the straight-up, chunky acid and tech house sound that he’s best known for, or the flashes of anthemic genius in his tracks with Ridney, his productions are always filled with colour, character, and funk.

Having graced world-leading labels like Get Physical, CR2, Bedrock, Noir, Saved and fabric in recent years, he’s kicked off the new decade in sterling form with his stomping, peak-time remix of M.A.N.D.Y. vs Booka Shade’s Donut. In addition, he’s got releases coming up throughout 2010 on acclaimed labels like Blu-Fin, Great Stuff Recordings and Global Underground.

After playing many of the world’s most revered clubs over the last two years – including Tokyo’s Womb, Chicago’s Spy Bar, London’s Ministry Of Sound, Manchester’s Sankeys and Toronto’s Footwork – he’ll be continuing to tour the globe extensively throughout 2010, with many more exciting plans afoot for the year. Both Chris & Tom, better known as the Miami Husslers have been hard at work creating a catalogue of tracks over the last few months, after initial signings to Mobin Masters Safari Records imprint and now with several signed to Myles Dysons Plasmapool label, the future is looking very bright for this homegrown talent.

If you’ve been anywhere near an electronic music event in the past few years, the likelihood is that at least one point during the evening you will have been moving to the hypnotic sounds of Lys.

Born and raised in Italy’s legendary Venice, Lys’s reputation has been forged on endless days in the studio perfecting his unique sound of electro tinged house, and demand for his sound has continued to grow with every piece of production that he works his magic on.

The end of an era.. but the start of a new one!!

Hey Crew…

Its been a while since my last update to you all but I have to get in touch to let you all know about a few changes that are occurring down at fresh that are going to directly relate to SHIFT_

With recent surveys and the current strategic direction of the station, it is with a slightly heavy heart that SHIFT_ will no longer exist in its current format and timeslot. I have enjoyed almost 2 full years and over 90 episodes in the current timeslot, and whilst I realise I had a pretty shaky start, I’m quite proud of how far it has come. It wouldn’t have been something worth pursuing if it wasn’t for you, the listeners, and the supportive comments and feedback you have all lent me since day one. I have tried to fill what I saw as a void in the musical aspect of programming at fresh and I feel I have done just that. I have also been able to present a number of talents and artists, both local and abroad, that wouldn’t necessarily had the opportunity in ‘prime time’ otherwise. I would like to thank and congratulate all my guests for there contributions, time & support up to now, in particular the Adelaide lads, you all know who you are!

So, where does this leave the show now? Well, you may be happy to know that this isn’t in fact the end, the show will go on albeit in a new timeslot and slightly tweaked format. SHIFT_ will still air on Saturday nights, just in the later timeslot of 11pm. It will now also extend beyond 2 hours and occupy the airwaves until 2am each and every week [barring clubcasts] so you will be able to tune in and get down most of the night to the sounds that have become the backbone of the SHIFT_ playlists.

My good mate and recent co-host James “Mebbo” Mebberson will also continue to be involved as well, so those of you that are fans of his stuff, you will still be able to hear the dulcet vocal tones from this fast rising star each and every week, plus maybe a new cameo from time to time!!

Adding to this, the extra hour will afford me to really show off what talent there is out there both here in Adelaide, domestically around Australia in the other states as well as from the farthest corners of the globe. So expect to hear quite a few guests in each show. If you are reading this and think you have what it takes to be part of the show get in touch. I would like to create a good sense of ‘community’ with the new direction of the show as I strongly believe that to keep our scene healthy we need to be all working together. So if in the mean time you have any comments, suggestions, feedback or whatever, get in touch, I’d love to hear from you.

The last show in the current 8pm till 10pm format will air on Saturday 3rd of April with the new 3 hour format begining on Saturday April 10th from 11pm.

This week we head home to catch up with 2 rising dj/producer stars coming out of the local scene..

In a country like Australia, so diverse and artistically rich, Motez has decided to settle in for another chance at life. Most of all he has hoped to continue with his music work elsewhere, where he can flourish as a producer and performer. The Baghdad born man moved to Adelaide in 2006 to find it one of the most fertile musical spots in the country. Motez has now taken on a new edge, moving to a dirtier sound, preferring the creation of more bass-driven music with snatched vocal cuts, glitch noises and a lot more groove. He is now at the leading edge of the new House Music movement in Australia. His latest release “Raves Are Dead” has been critically acclaimed and his tracks have been featured extensively online at Beatport.

With there recent album the 'Metropolitan' receiving critical acclaim worldwide, The Carter Bros are a name at the forefront of the Adelaide Underground scene... This week we head north to the sunshine state of Queensland to catch up with two of Brisbane's best..

Cosmo Cater leads an extra-ordinary double life, by day he is a mild mannered solicitor charged with protecting the innocent, or sometimes guilty. By night Cosmo reappears as the all conquering DJ's Dj charged with warming up for the worlds best dj's, often overshadowing the headline act!

Brett Chapman, better known as Chappo, has had a whirlwind rise to the top of the DJ ranks in Brisbane over the last couple of years. Initially starting out as a trance man he has evolved into one of the most forward thinking & relevant dj's to appear on the Brisbane scene. To him though keeping the tunes fresh is one thing but keeping the floor moving is another, and to Chappo both of these are always at the front of his mind!
